Heike's Cooking Attempt; Grade: B
I have been determined to eat some of the older food (mainly frozed meat) that have been hanging out in our freezer. I feel like Adam is always ready to go grocery shopping before we ever get around to eat everything we have, which inevitably leads to the oldest stuff (bottom of the pile) never getting touched.
Last night, I decided to use up our frozen shrimp, something I bought on a whim months ago. Adam was not on-board with this little exercise and claimed he didn't like shrimp - Since when? I found a receipe for cilantro-shrimp, which was perfect since I had accidently bought cilantro last week instead of parsley, and Adam won't touch that either. The marinade had cilantro, parsley, lemon and garlic in it - i whipped it up with some oil in the food processor, similar to a pesto..... the shrimp ended up being tough, which I don't think was my fault. No more frozen shrimp in our house.
Last time I went grocery shopping alone (a rarity since I hate that chore and Adam actually enjoys it), I bought plain cous cous, because I felt like we were always making one of those Near East boxes and throwing half of it out.... I've been looking forward to experimenting with flavors. I found a receipe for Lemon-herb couc cous, which was easy since there was plenty of ingredient overlap. I think I put in too much liquid - texture was a bit off, but the flavor was good.
Lastly, I made a salad with a yellow & red tomatoes and a red onion with a homemade balsamic dressing - easily the tastiest part of my dinner.
What did Adam have for dinner? Frozen pizza... not exactly what I was trying to purge the freezer of!!!
