QotD: Pets
Do you have a pet? What kind of pet do you own, and why did you choose it?

No pets for us, yet. We keep talking about getting a dog or two. The plan had been we would consider pets once we we were in our own place... Well, we all know how that turned out.
I thought we'd get two because the dog-maintenance wouldn't be that much more and then they would have each other during the day while we were at work. We would try to adopt a young (not puppy) dog from a shelter when/if we get a pet. A puppy is too much work for us and we like the idea of taking in an animal that needs a home. Adam grew up with dogs, his mom has three Yorkies. My dad & his girlfriend have had yorkies as well, so its a breed we are familiar with. I don't know if we would necessarily end up with a Yorkie (or two) or a different type of small terrier.
Every now and then when I am procrastinating at work, I go on the puppy adoption website and look at the dogs that need a home... then I'll send Adam an email that says PUPPIES!!!!! and we'll have the discussion that we're not ready yet. The problem we run in to with a pet is what to do with him/her when we travel. My dad and Adam's families would be fine with our pup joining us, but my mom isn't a big animal lover.... We don't feel ready to be tied down, even by a dog. We like going out to happy hour after work and not worrying about poor little sparky's bladder.... We'll see, maybe we'll wait and get a dog after we are tied down by a kid.
