I love Slate. I LOVE my thursday "Dear Prudence" fix.
Here's a great election video.
Super Tuesday is tomorrow. Do you know how you're going to vote? What issues concern you most?
Pennsylvania is one of the last states to host a primary, so I don't think my vote is going to carry much wait when all is said and done. By then, actually, as early as Wednessday, there might already be a clear Democratic forerunned. The first 15min of Meet the Press were interesting yesterday - seriously, that is EXACTLY the amount of time I can stomach, before I feel the urge to FLEE the room.
I've been on the fence between Obama and Hillary.... read an interested Op-Ed in (you guessed it) the NY Times written by the economist Paul Krugman. He made a compelling argument for Hillary's healthcare plan over Obama's.....
My boss and I got asked to be on a panel for a bunch of regulators (talking about water). We were also asked if we could suggest another analyst to speak on the topic of electric and/or gas utilities. With that having been my previous coverage I have some contacts. I put some calls in to mgmt teams I know and got some names.
The first person I thought I should call was my boss from my brief stint in NYC. I knew that they had been trying to make some headway with regulators (my experience in this is partly why I was hired) so I called his office and got his secretary. We chit-chatted for a few minutes and I left my digits for my old boss to call back.
I KNOW that the second she got off the phone she walked in to the office where the ladies sit..... I'm sure my sudden departure is being rehashed (again). Wasn't a lot of love floatin' around when I left....
I just had a great epiphany and there is no one in the office to share it with! It's earnings season, so everyone else has taken off for the day (hours ago) after having put in a long week of grueling nights.
I run our department's internship program. The most annoying part of the process is that it completely consumes my time when I am conducting the first round interviews and I feel like a broken record giving my 10min schtick about the company and the experience.
It JUST dawned on me, that I could hold an info session or two, using one of our conference call lines and the pdf document that I use for live info sessions. DUH! Why didn't I think of that earlier. I'll pick two different dates/times and those that are interested in interviewing can just log in. Then I can do group Q&A which will also save me some time.
I wish I could say "I'm so smart", but really, I SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THIS LAST YEAR ALREADY!
I bought two squares in the office Superbowl pool in honor of my late mentor. As someone mentioned in his eulogy, "there isn't a betting pool that Dave wouldn't join" .... I didn't realize was I was getting myself in to though - for some reason I thought the squares were $3 each. Nope, its $20 a square. Ooops!
So, my squares are:
Giants 9 / Patrios 6 - (end of 1Q results, maybe?)
Giants 4 / Patriots 1 - (not too bad either -- 14/21, right?)
Fingers crossed!!!! At $20/square with 100 squares, this would be a nice win... hey, it could easily fund my recent camera indulgence....
What do you do with all the receipts you get? Which do you trash and which do you save, and how do you store them?
I am a super-duper receipt saver. It drives Adam completely bonkers. I think I have just about every receipt for things I've bought since 2000. I could probably round up the receipts for over half of my wardrobe. Crazy, right? Adam throws just about every receipt in the trash - this drives ms bonkers when I want to return something.
I have this blue-plastic tote thing I got from Staples, that keeps my receipts alphabetized. At the end of the year, when I am cleaning out a year's worth of bill/statements, I empty to receipt-holder and file away them away with that year's statements. Turns out, there no point in saving all that stuff. I purged a lot with my mom -- need to buy a shredder before the scary box of documents gets the heave-ho.
What drives Adam crazy is that it sometimes takes awhile for me to get the receipts into the blue-thingy, so they float around the apartment until then. He made a rule that I'm not allowed to save receipts that are for less than $20.
