Lindsay Lohan posed nude as Marilyn Monroe in the spring fashion issue of New York Magazine. Do you think recreating Monroe's last photo shoot before her 1962 death was a good career move for Lindsay?

I've seen the photos.... found them very uninspiring.... for reasons I can't explain, I find her freckles annoying. I had no idea that this particular photo shoot was Monroe's final shoot before her untimely death. A foreshadowing perhaps?

I was reading an article earlier this week about the trial going on about who is really behind Princess Di's death. For some reason, the article made me think "It's a wonder that Britany Spears, Paris Hilton, and Lindsey Lohan haven't suddenly died"... hmmm

Say again???

Last Monday I was sitting in a bar waiting for some friends to show up and this random guy asked me if I had ever been told that I look like someone famous. I replied that back in the late 80s, when I had very curly hair and Dirty Dancing had just come out that people used to say I looked like Jennifer Grey.

He made this big production out of telling me I shouldn't be offended by who he thought I looked like...... after much build up, he finally said I looked like Mary Lou Retton. WHAT? Even more odd was that the young teeny-booper bartender (she must have only been 21) had no idea who that was. That made me feel old. Pretty random!

I just can't take it anymore...

I spent the last two days interviewing students at Villanova and Dickinson and I'm exhausted!!!

Its tough picking among equally qualified kids that are all looking to break in to the business. Not only that, I'm only HALFWAY through first round interviews. I've spent 80+ hours on internship-stuff, and am only at the halfway mark.

My "real" work is starting to build up.... I'm not a happy camper.

This is what my mom said when she called last night on Valentine's Day. Pretty funny. Can you tell we aren't big on mushy-sentiment in my house?

Last night we had a nice steak dinner with a homemade red wine/mushroom/shallot sauce that Adam concockted that tasted phenomenal.... afterwards, I watched The Parent Trap (love this movie for some reason) and scanned resumes/cover letters of prospective interns. I felt like a teacher grading papers.

We've had 80+ resumes come in. Yikes!

Eh, Valentine's Day....

Can't say I've ever been fond of the holiday. I like to say its because I worked in a Hallmark in highschool and would spend hours upon hours in a sea of red bagging candy, but that's not really why I dislike the holiday. To me, its kind of like New Years Eve -- there is too much pressure to make the night memorable.

I did have one memorable Valentine's Day. It was with my first boyfriend in highschool after we had been dating almost a year. He was a pretty schleppy dresser and on our budgets (he worked at Harmon's) we didn't exactly splurge when we went out. As a complete surprise, he showed up at my door in a suit, holding a dozen roses, and a box of chocolates. It was very cliche, but very sweet. It was a big deal for him to get out of torn jeans and a flannel shirt, which was what I appreciated the most.

Can't say I've really had any memorable V-days since then, or that I even care.... last year on Valentine's day there was a blizzard in Philly. The state-owned liquor stores closed down (unbenonst to everybody) and I felt bad for all of the people that had made reservations at BYOB's and couldn't get their hands on a bottle of booze. I believe we went out for a drink or two at a bar with friends. Afterwards, we hung out with two of our single friends in our apartment and had fun helping one of them create his profile on match.com. I was the one at the computer and I marked down that he enjoyed skinnydipping -- something he only realized weeks later -- very amusing!

There's an article on CNN today about the unnecessary V-day expectations that make the day stressful.

Our plans for tonight? We've having steaks and salad and a nice bottle of wine.... no biggie.

What's my job again???

I've been so busy with non-research job responsibilities for the last two weeks.... it's really starting to get on my nerves.

We are hosting a swanky dinner in DC at a conference and I was in charge of picking the restaurant and the menu, managing the budget, sending out invites, accepting RSVPs etc...... We were aiming for a group of about 10-12. When it looked like we weren't going to get that many, we started inviting more people. Looks like we will have about 24 people now. Craziness!

We also have this water conference in April.... TIME VACUUM!!!

Lastly, I'm in charge of our summer internship. We have over 60 students apply so far - for 4 slots and the resume cut-off date isn't until next Friday! I have started delegating some of the student-tracking to my admin, but there's no way to push the selection process off on to someone else. I'm spending a day at Dickinson and Villanova interviewing students. We'll interview approximately roughly half of the candidates that apply in the first round. Excluding the two trips to college campuses, I will conduct about 30 interviews at 15min a pop. That's over 7 hours of interviewing and its just the first round!!!! This isn't my job - does our HR dept even exist??? About half of those students make it to the second round. Luckily, at that point, I will only have to interview the students for my intern-slot. I match a few candidates to each of the other teams hosting interns and they are responsible for making the final selection for each of their teams. We should have a great bunch of students with this many people to choose from - that part is amazing!

I was supposed to publish an industry piece during the first week of January..... I'm finally getting to it now.

Entertainment QotD: Reality TV Gone Too Far?

"Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" shows the real-life drama of celebrities in drug rehab. Do you think this is helpful or exploitative?

I LOVE the trashy-ness of this show. It fills a nice void that's been missing in "bad-reality TV world" since Temptation Island ended. I think this show would be considered exploitative IF it was a show about non-celebs going through the recovery process. All of these people are accustomed to being in front of the camera and three or four of them have already been on other VH1 Celeb-reality TV shows (two on the Surreal Life and one on Celebrity Fit Club). Drugged up or not, they (and/or their agents that got them on the show) knew what they were getting into.

Is it helpful? Probably not. But who cares? It's trashy reality TV about washed-up entertainers trying to make some money and in the meantime, kick their bad habits.... interestingly, it's already been leaked that one of the people on the show (the blond girl who was on American Idol) has already gotten arrested for public drunkness and being biligerent/abusive to cops since the show wrapped up. Dr. Drew was able to convince the judge not to throw her in jail. Instead, she's having another dose of rehab - this time without the cameras....

Trying to upload a video... cross your fingers

I think this worked.... I haven't done a trip recap, but the short version is the skiing conditions were less than ideal, but still incredibly AWESOME compared to the East Coast conditions we are used to skiing. My sis fell ill early on and spent most of the trip in bed with the flu. It snowed all day the first day and on the second day we had about 10 inches of fresh powder to ski in - that was an adjustment, to say the least... I couldn't believe how hard it was to control your skis. I was falling pretty often as I tried to ski the powder. Adam played it safe and kept to the groomed trails. The wind was just insane! The video I took below (from the doorway of the lodge) shows how crazy it was!
