]]>I was online today looking at photos from Dickinson Alumni weekend, which took place a few weeks ago. I was surprised to see the number of alums, spanning all years, that had married other Dickinsonians... they seemed to be everywhere......
Then, when I thought about it, I realized that there are quite a few in our group of friends too... and most of us didn't start dating the Dickinsonian that we ultimately ended up with until after we graduated....
It's an unusual phenomenon.
]]>What is the most interesting class you have ever taken?

There was an Economics professor at Dickinson that students either LOVED or HATED, there was no in between. I was a big fan. Adam managed to get an Econ major without every having his as a professor. The thing was, he was very tough in the 100-level classes to weed out the weak students and much more pleasant and interesting in the upper-level classes. I took a 300-level class with him called Industrial Organization, which I found to be phenomenal. Sounds boring - I know. The class talked about the different factors that impacted different industries. For example, R&D costs are a big barrier to entry for the pharmaceutical industry, but not really an impact for other sectors. Wow, I sound like a finance-dork.
I credit this class with opening my eyes to the area of Equity Research and attribute this class/professor to me having selected this career (wow, grammar is off, but I couldn't get it right).
Sidebar: I interview Dickinson students for interviews here at my firm. I LOVE asking the Econ students what they think of this professor and watching them squirm. Hey, I'm allowed to have some fun!
]]>I had been looking forward to this weekend for a long time and it definitely lived up to its expectations. Many Dickinson friends descended on Philly this weekend to see friends that had been living abroad for three years. We were lucky enough to visit them in Japan. We had a blast! Check out all of the Dickinson Alums in attendance!
We are still recovering from the weekend....
Best of all - those friends that stayed at our apartment are the people that will also be attending a wedding in November - so pretty much the same group of us will be partying again in a few short months. Can't wait!
]]>I have been looking forward to this weekend since February. The friends that we visited in Japan are relocating to the States and before they settle down in Savannah, they are are stopping off in Philly for a visit. We put the word out to all of our Dickinson friends months ago and tons of people are descending on the city for the occasion. People are coming from Boston, Richmond, DC, and Tampa!
Back when these plans were hatched, we had thought that we would have moved into our new house by now (GRRRR!!!) and told quite a few people that they could crash with us - 3Br and a basement, plenty of room! Well, since we're still in our apartment, its going to be a little cramped. We have 5 people staying with us! We had to borrow areobeds and blankets from friends & family to accomodate everyone!
In honor of our weekend, here's a photo from our Spring Break 00 trip to Key West, where I learned that I don't have sea legs, not even a little bit. 4 out of the 8 of us will be hanging out this weekend!!!
There was an article in the NYtimes the other day that I wrote about, but than my internet connection got messed up and nothing saved... the short version: they are calling a bunch of schools "the new ivies" students that would normally apply to Ivy League schools think the competition is too tough, so they are applying to other schools... Lehigh and Lafayette got mentioned a bunch of times in this article.... Lafayette? We are WAY BETTER THAN THEM!!!

I still can't believe how much we were able to pack into one trip. Not only did we see many parts of Tokyo, we spent 3 days in Kyoto, and got to travel to Mount Fuji, all the while enjoying the great company of our friends.
Unfortunately, I think this is the only photo of the four of us.

]]>This weekend we decided to lay low and have a quite weekend in the city. Originally, we were going to go to Tampa for to visit Jen & Mark (Dickinson friends), but because of Veterens Day, ticket prices were a bit expensive (especially since we have our Japan trip coming up!).
On Friday night we enjoyed happy hour with Allison before heading home to feast on Bobolis and watch a movie. Saturday, we took in the unseasonably warm weather and walked around Philly to get a feel for some neighborhoods we are interested in (more on this later). Saturday night, I went to an event at a furniture warehouse with a tennis friend and then crashed a Dickinsonian's 30th birthday party at a bar, while Adam enjoyed a lazy evening of peace and quiet. Today, we putzt around the apartment, watched the Eagles finally win a game, and cooked Minestrone together. I really enjoy it when we cook together! Adam has also been getting ready for his upcoming business trip to Pittsburgh. It's nice that I'm not the one that's going to be on the road for a change!
Tomorrow is my first day back at my old job. I'm so happy I don't have to do that Monday morning commute to Manhattan anymore. Catching that 5:52am train was a real killer.
]]>I'm sick...and not happy about it!!!!!!
My weekend started with my flight back to Philly from Atlanta being delayed 3 hours, so instead of landIing at 4:30pm (in time to get to happy hour) I landed at 7:30pm. As the night progressed I felt worse and worse, but attributed it to sheer exhaustion from being on the road for 3 days - I was in Austin on Wed/Thurs and Atlanta on Thurs/Fri. I woke up on Saturday with a full blown cold.... and had to work until 3pm (which I knew I was going to have to do).
I had really been looking forward to this weekend, because Adam and I were attending a fancy Dickinson event at the Constitution Center. It took all the energy I could muster to get dressed up and go. We had a nice time, but by the time the formal dinner was done at 10pm, I was fading fast. We never ended up taking any photos at the event - so we snapped a few shots in the cab on the way home.... Adam looks great in his tux!
I spent all day today huddled in bed, catching up with shows saved in Tivo, and trying to get as many fluids in me as possible. I only crawled out of bed to watch the Eagles/Dallas game with Adam. Thankfully,they are winning and I have a happy husband on my hands, but there is still 5min left in the fourth quarter.
Tomorrow, Adam has off from work and was supposed to come up to NYC to see my office, go out to lunch, and get a feel for the city. My fever is going up, not down, so I'm not sure I'm even going to work. It might not be a bad idea to spend another day in bed instead of trying to go to work before I am feeling well and just prolong getting better. I guess my stressful life-arrangement has finally caught up to me.
The only real highlight of our weekend was that we finally bought our tickets to JAPAN!!! We'll get our flight info to everyone, but so you have the dates: we are leaving on Saturday Dec 23rd and returning on January 3rd... We were able to upgrade to first class for the trip over, which is awesome, since it is a 14 hour trip. We weren't able to upgrade for the flight home, but there's still a chance that they might release some first class tickets for upgrades, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
]]>Adam and I have been invited to a fancy-schmansy event at the Constitution Center on Saturday night - its a black-tie, sit-down dinner for 300 people. It is a Dickinson event geared towards the Alumni in the area that have given large donations to the college. In addition to inviting those that have provided finanical support, they also invited those that have donated their time to actively help the college. Me & my co-chair, Deana were invited in recognition of the last 4 years that we have organized Alumni Events in Philadelphia (and kicked butt doing it!).
It may sound silly, but I am thrilled to death that it is black-tie, because Adam will get to break out his tux. This is either the second or third time he has needed it since our wedding, so it's looking to be a great investment. AND, since I have this event and two wedding to go to all in October, I get to go shopping for a new dress! I don't mind wearing the same outfit to two events (especially when there is no guest overlap), but three is a bit much, especially if they are so close together -- I'll look the same in all the photos - how boring!!!
I am also looking forward to vegging out on Saturday catching up on all the shows Tivo has waiting for me, Studio 60, Gilmore Girls, ER, Project Runway, LOST! -- high priority. I'm away on business Wed-Fri, so I'm sure I will be exhausted and will need time to recover. Adam, would argue that the highlight of the weekend is going to be the Eagles vs. Dallas game on Sunday.
The fun continues on Monday, because Adam has off for Columbus day and is going to come to NYC to see where I work (and maybe my new apartment -- cross your fingers!!) and just get a feel for the city. It will be nice for him to see where I disappear to all week - and we haven't really ever gotten to eat lunch together mid-week since he sits on the trading floor and only has a few minutes to grab a bite, so that will be nice as well.
