We came home from Colorado yesterday to a great suprise - my Amazon order!!!! Looking forward to "playing" with my camera this weekend in the park.
I have been drooling for a new, swanky camera for the last 6 months. At Christmas, we saw my brother-in-law unable to put down his new "toy". I love this shot I took of him - he looks like he's part of the papparazzi!
Ever since, I've been itching even more to upgrade from my point and shoot. Don't get me wrong, I love my Canon powershot, but lately, I have been noticing its limitations more and more. Most pronounced, I think, is that the flash over-shines, whatever is closest to the lense. I've tried changing the settings, but without much luck. See how bright my sister looks in this shot?
Tonight, I FINALLY bought myself a new, swanky camera! I opted for Best Buy's "pick-up" option and Adam is going to get it for me on Saturday while I'm studying. I'M SO EXCITED!!!

IPHONE - No thanks! I'm an electronic moron. Today I learned that I am hopeless with a financial calculator -- not good for my exam! I can barely get the phone I have no to work. The more bells and whistles something has, the less likely I am to buy it. I sound like an old lady!
I don't even have an ipod, so I think I can do without a $400-$600 phone.
We have gotten right back into the swing of things as far as taping TV programs go.... Adam noticed on Sunday night that the DVR cut off the last few seconds of The 4400, but I didn't think too much of it.... On Monday night I wasn't up for watching the last two episodes of a show called MY BOYS that's on TBS from 10-11pm (It was the Summer Season Finale) so we taped it. The show promised a big ending in the last 30 seconds (do you see where I am going with this?).
The basic plot was that PJ, the main character, and her best friend from college were each going to find a man and the four of them would take a trip to Italy... PJ had three offers of men to go with her... in the last 30sec you were going to get to see which one she picked --- hmmm, sounds lame now that I explain it --- well, my DVR ended the program just as the camera was panning to the other airline seat! I can't believe it!!!
Update: I figured out what's going on, but I don't think I can fix it. The bedroom TV is on a bit of a delay, wither because the big TV is HD, or just because the signal has to go the extra cable length to get to the bedroom... so, this isn't something that can be fixed. With TIVO you coudl program it to start taping a little early or go a little late, but Comcast doesn't give that option.... grrr....
Second Update: I just went websurfing for the answer and learned that the show faded to black without giving an answer..... OOps, my bad! Sorry I blamed you beloved DVR!
Just got off the phone with Comcast. Can't believe how nice and friendly the Account Rep was that I spoke to -- He was freakishly helfpul and on the ball - Boy did I get lucky!.
Signed us up for the Triple Play Package, (cable, internet, & phone). We were thinking of doing this back in March, but then we were getting close on buying the house and figured it wasn't worth the hassle.... Finally, got around to making the call and I can't believe we didn't do it sooner.
Our monthly bill of $170/month sounds high, but it includes so much.... High speed internet and cable, which we were already pay about $130/month for, plus free long distance and toll calls. Our monthly Verizon bill has been $80-$100/month and we were barely using it - the fees, surchages, and taxes got ridiculous. As part of triple play, we get Showtime and HBO included... and you all know how much I have been clammoring for that. Another perk is that I can call Germany for 9cents/minute, without paying an additional international plan fee..... Gotta be able to call my OMA! While I was at it, I added a DVR box to our account, since our Tivo died. With Exam studying this is going to come in extremely handy. AND, the technician is bringing the box next week when he comes to handle the phone, so we don't have to go pick it up! A nice way to start the week!
What kind of camera(s) do you own?
A Cannon Powershot, not sure of the exact specs..... I love my camera! Adam was a sweetheart and bought it for me last year "just because" before our Germany trip. Good thing its a sturdy camera, cuz I've given it quite a banging -- I don't tend to be very gentle with things like cameras and cellphones.
I'm learning to use all the high-tech functions, which are making my photos look better. Well, that and I a little finessing from Picassa.
After over four long hours of waiting for the installation guy to show, WE FINALLY HAVE CABLE INTERNET. It is so fast, I can't believe the difference! Now the real fun will begin. We can get the printer uploaded, I can start scanning photos, and playing with the cool functions on my new cell phone....
Isn't there always? We can't hook our computer up to the internet. AND, we got the new Microsoft Vista but the software for our printer/scanner isn't Vista compatable (even though it came with it).... so, we need to go online to download the correct softward... see above for why that won't work. So, I'm a bit bummed, because I wanted to spend the day playing with the scanner.... We look very high-tech right now with two working computers hooked up in our office.
We had a nice afternoon of futzing at least, and hey, everything is more fun if you are drinking momosas while you do it!
We will, hopefully, be switching to a cable modem sometime this week and then the REAL fun will begin -- playing with all the high-tech stuff our old computer couldn't handle....
A few weeks ago, when we were at a bar watching the Eagles lose in the playoffs , I was surprised by the amount of people using their blackberries and not engaging with their friends or even watching the game. My blackberry was functioning for barely 24 hours before I became one of those people. I was out last night with a couple of friends at that very same bar. My blackberry buzzed and before I knew it I was trading emails with my boss instead of participating in the conversation. I'd like to think this was an isolated case, and I was only emailing back and forth because it was my boss, who was a bit P.O'd about something I had accidently left her out of the loop on and didn't realize I had left the office early, but I can't really be sure. Hopefully, I will learn to reign in my usage....
I'll tell you one thing, it sure is convenient to have... before I was even out of my elevator this morning, I was able to check my work email, confirm that nothing out of the ordinary was going on, and check my gmail to see what day my tennis buddies want to play next week... big fan. And yesterday, when I worked from home, the internet was down, but I was able to stay in the loop, cuz of the crackberry....
Must.... resist... the urge........
I have finally reached my breaking point.... we are buying a new computer this weekend. We had been waiting until we got our bonuses to buy one, even though we have the cash now, (Ad, always the financially conservative guy)... but I just can't wait any longer. Our computer has gotten so bad, we need to take it off of life support ASAP.... We bought this computer with my first bonus from Janney, so its from 2002, practically ancient. The new Microsoft Explorer that Mcafee uploaded has screwed up the internet, I did something that accidently ruined the jukebox, and everything has suddenly gotten REALLY slow. I think all of the photos we are storing on it may have something to do with it.
I have held off adding a program I need for work because I didn't want to make things worse, which means that working from home hasn't been as easy as it should be. Computers purchased after Jan 31st have the new Microsoft Vista program, which I had thought was a good reason to postpone our purchase. I've also held off uploading Microsoft Money and Picasso (google photo product) until we got a new computer... I missed Greys Anatomy last week and our computer is too slow for me to watch online, and now I have this funky cell phone with a cool music function, that also has somethign that needs to be uploaded before use....
The computer is just SO SLOW!!! I just can't take it anymore...
