Can you tell that Ad & I are annoyed?? I was with the developer a week ago Tuesday, (so 9 days ago) and we are STILL waiting for him to get us a floorplan, which he said was easy to run off a copy.... we are also still waiting to hear what the costs of the appliance upgrades will be and what the heck he thinks he is trading us for doing to closets ourselves. This guy talks himself in circles, and in the span of one conversation changed the arrangement/contradicted himself three times! When I got off the phone with him I called our realtor and said that I wanted everything in writing and signed, because this guy is so inconsistent with what he says.
We asked our realtor to step in after a couple of days of not hearing back from the Developer and all we got is a "I'll get back to you", and then nothing..... COME ON PEOPLE!
I get the feeling that this April 13th closing isn't as firm as we think. If he hasn't given us the appliance info yet, we can't make a choice, which means he can't order them, get them delivered, installed, etc... that crap takes time.
AND, I have this fear that they are going to call and expect the paint colors on the spot - which I wouldn't put past them.... it would be completely unfair to make us wait over a week for relatively simply requests and then expect us to have our part done with little warning. When I met with the guy last Tuesday, he said he would need the paint colors we decide in a week or two, which means, NOW.
I can't give our 30days notice on our current apartment or hire movers until we know this closing date is still on. ARGH! Just had to vent.
A little late posting this, but better late than never, I guess. On Tuesday I went with the developer to pick out granite and stop off at the appliance store. During the course of the two hours I spent with him, I learned that the bank was putting a lot of pressure on him to sell another unit and begin construction of the last two units (which only have fondations so far). To "get them off his back", as he put it, he bought the townhouse next to ours, for his youngest son, who is 23, married, and getting out of the Marines next month. So, that's a little weird - but it gets weirder. Our developer is named Bill, and his sons are named Will and Bill - yup, two sons named William. Apparently, the first was named after Bill's father, and because the second one was born on his birthday, they named him William as well -- beyond strange to me!!!
I walked through "our" unit and the model unit with the developer. We had really wanted a side-by-side fridge (as opposed to the freezer being on the top or the bottom), but they put one in the model unit and because the wall is right next to the fridge, you can't open the freezer door fully -- that's pretty stupid. We also didn't like the cheap closet stuff they had installed in the model unit. I told the developer we would like to consider handling the closets ourselves in exchange for a concession elsewhere. He was absolutely thrilled with that idea and told us that he would cover the cost of undermounting the two sinks (kitchen & masterbath) AND cover the cost of upgrading 3 appliances (fridge, stove, & dishwasher) in exchange for him not having to put in any labor in the closets. This really works for everyone. My stepfather has been kind enough to offer to install closet shelving/bars for us.
We are worried about the other units being sold. We had been hoping for (counting on) the developer being able to sell the other units at a cost above where we bought. The unit he gave his son is the only other one that was at our price point and the same size, so when the others sell, it is going to be a little more difficult to guage how that compares to out unit. 4 of the 5 remaining units are a foot wider than our (one is the model with all the bells & whistles) and the last one, is the one that we saw that is priced the lowest, which has the funny stairs. The developer said he didn't expect the spring pick-up to occur until around Easter, which is much later than when our realtor had told us - although we suspect the realtor was trying to pressure us to buy and not wait....
We are still really happy with the place.... just nervous
